Obedience Location

I am Wendy Raymond and I have been involved in training dogs since 1991. I formed Training Humans For Dogs because of my love for animals and a philosophy that teaching owners how to communicate with their dog will benefit the dog and human in their relationship for the life of the dog.

I have worked for breeders and kennels in the areas of obedience and agility and have obtained a 4th ranked Boxer rating in national agility championship trials.  I have graduated from Animal Behavior College and been involved with the SPCA and IACP dog programs. Training Humans For Dogs proudly serves Prince William County including the communities of Manassas, Manassas Park, Ashburn, Chantilly, Centreville, Haymarket, and Gainesville with the finest dog training and obedience classes in Northern Virginia. I will serve other Northern Virginia locations upon request and approval.

I am proud to use training modeled after Cesar Millan, The Dog Whisperer. My goal is to have you and your dog become a well rounded pack. To help identify the issues the dog maybe having and teach the owner to be able to handle their dog. To show the owner how to identify the dogs body language and what they are saying or not saying. To show you the owner what your body language is saying and not saying to the dog. To teach the owner the basic concepts a dog NEEDS to have to be a balanced dog. Every dog comes with lessons and rules that their mother and other siblings taught them before they came to us. I show you those lessons that they learned so you can communicate to your dog what he/she all ready knows.

I address the following behavior concerns and show
you how to handle them!

  • Pulling on leash
  • Hyperactive dog
  • Obsessive with toys
  • Nuisance barking
  • Aggression with dogs or people
  • Jumping up on humans
  • Housebreaking
  • Inappropriate chewing
  • Separation anxiety
  • Bringing home a baby

I will help you identify and address doggy behavior concerns like nipping, biting, chewing, hyper activity, and obsessive behavior. Show you how to properly exercise your dog and the difference between "play time" exercise and "mental exercise" and make it part of you and your dog's life. It is important for your dog not to be living with pent up energy, to be walked everyday, and earn play time.

Training Humans for Dogs – Private In-Home Lessons

Private in-home training is all psychological and behavioral and has nothing to do with basic obedience (sit, stay, down etc). I come to the owner's home where the issues are occurring and show the owner how to communicate with their dog, how to read their dog's body language and learn from it. I will teach the owner to get a calm dog back into their life, to become the pack leader in their home and life. This will enable the owner to get control of their home and life back. I do not come in and "fix" the dog. This is a working process between the family and dog which can take months of effort. I will provide solutions to modify the problems, however, length and cost varies depending on the nature of the problem, the temperament of the dog, and the owner.

Private in-home sessions are highly recommended so I can observe your dog's behavior in their own environment. Your home is where bad behavior begins and where it must be corrected. Also I can see how you and your dog interact which helps me formulate a program that will work best for you to achieve better household manners like housebreaking, chewing, hyperness, bolting out the front door, and jumping on people when they enter your home. And learning the basic concepts on how to walk your dog in heal position.

I recommend that all pet owners say or neuter their dog as part of responsible pet ownership. I strongly support any SPCA’s and Humane Societies efforts in your community.

Training Humans for Dogs – Group Class Lessons

7-Session Behavior and Obedience Training Program - Using Waggin' Tails Junction facilities, I provide one (1) introductory class for owners and six (6) one hour dog classes that teach the owner to use their voice, hands and body language to positively reinforce the dog's good behavior. I teach you how the Mother Dog related to her puppy as a calm and assertive pack leader. You are now this dog's Mother and pack leader and must fulfill that requirement with your dog. The obedience you to teach your dog is: to knows its name, sit, down, come, stay, walk on leash in heal position and basic manners. This class is recommended for dogs over 6 months old.

Behavior Evaluations - During class I will evaluate your dog and members of your family, to insure I offer the best training program that fits your circumstances. Dogs are like people, and no two are alike, so I work with you and your dog's specific needs. This may involve additional information and education concerning your dog.

Testimonials

We continue to make progress with both dogs and people.   The pizza delivery man came to the door last night and both dogs sat on the carpet, stayed, and remained quiet while I dealt with him.  It was great!
-- Thanks, Lisa --

I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for today. It was so amazing for me to see Matt and Jasper working together like that. They actually had some cuddle time together on the floor tonight. This is definitely what we needed, and with these new tools we can do the work together. It also puts things in perspective with Bailey, and how much work he needs as well. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you! You are saving my family in more ways than you can ever know. Jasper is just too important for me to lose, and like you said he can teach Matt so much.

He is doing better at the door and most people that come now know the routine so that helps a lot.  It still takes a while to decide to cooperate on the leash, but once he makes the decision to cooperate he does real well.  We've practiced a lot on "come" and responding to his name.  I think he has that down now.
Thanks again for your help.
-- Trish and Mojo --

It was great meeting you the other day, we've already seen such a difference in Max & Greta. Thanks!
-- Jessica --

I cannot thank you enough for every effort you have made to help Cooper and Cal. It was wonderful to watch Wendy with him today, my neighbor was watching and would like to contact her to work with their son's dog. I am so grateful to have gotten the referral over to you.

I just wanted to thank you for helping my husband and I out on Saturday.  I can't tell you the absolute joy I have felt at every meal time when Maggie and Charlie sit (calm-submissively) in the family room as one of us prepared their food.  It's amazing how good they can be when we change OUR behavior!  They are also both doing very well with their new collars and are pretty quickly learning to go to the bathroom when given "free time" after behaving on their walks.  We have also been working with them on various tasks just to reinforce our statuses by keeping them out of certain rooms until we invite them in to join us.  They've been exhausted all weekend, and I'm guessing the extra brain stimulation has been doing the trick.  I am certain that the techniques and guidance you've given us will help us help the dogs to become more balanced and happier.
Again, a big thanks for helping our family!  Now what can you do with kids?????
-- Shannon --

Wendy your were AMAZING with the hounds. Frankie in particular made major progress that thrilled us. We went on our walk this morning and he was still in the zone. It was great. We'll try to maintain the good habits she shared with us, because they really do make a difference.
 Thanks so much.
-- Kiki and Lea --

John, Puck, and I would like to sincerely thank you for your help.  We have had nothing but positive steps forward since you came to help us. He still tests us, like you said he would, but our household is an entirely new environment now.  We are not afraid to have visitors.  I don't feel apprehensive, guilty, or ashamed when I take him out on walks, and Puck is visibly happier.  Friends and family members who come to visit all comment on Puck's improved behavior.
I know that you said that you have cats, but I don't remember if you work with cat owners.  My sister-in-law is interested in having someone work with she and her husband and cat.
Thank you again.
-- Annie Dennison --

Wendy, thanks for the follow up.
Maggie seems to be getting better each day. We took her with us to visit family over Memorial Day weekend. She still nipped a bit in the beginning but she quickly learned the rules.
She is doing well with potty training and we are getting back into a good walking pattern that was altered a bit with travel.
We'd like to stay on your mailing list for your group classes although it is difficult to tell what we will be doing mid summer. I am sure we will attend your  Fall schedule.
We appreciate your interest and help.
Sincerely,
-- Jill Spall --
